Introducing MBS Zabeel Printing Press, one of the largest web and sheet printers based in Dubai, who have recently installed the first Komori Web Offset Printing plant in the Gulf to cater to the UK and European print publishing market.

Zabeel have invested 3.5 Million GBP for the plant and machinery which has been installed strategically opposite to our existing sheet fed and finishing plant in Deira, Dubai. This new machine is set to primarily target the UK and European market by exporting brochures and other publications. This plant offers UK and European publishers massive savings on print costs as well as many company tax benefits.

Wayne Beckett, Business Development Manager of MBS UK say’s “This is a massive market for us now as many UK and European publishing companies and advertising agencies are sending their publications and promotional material abroad for production".

Zabeel Printing Press is part of the MBS Group, are very diverse in our operations which include engineering, travel, materials handling and graphics. “It has only been in the last 2 years that the group, from a strategic point of view, has looked at its core business and so now we are going to have a group that focus's on the printing business across the UK and Europe and the opening of our new UK office will be critical in the development of these markets” Beckett said. “Owing to the vast opportunities open to web based printing in the Middle East, plans are in place to install two more web based machines in Dubai. Depending on how we are sustaining growth in this machine, it could be next year or in two years. But certainly within the next four.”

Vijay S. Menon, General Manager of Zabeel Printing Press, say’s “All our machines are Komori. We already have a lot of support from The Komori Corporation and they were very happy that the first Komori web press is coming to the Gulf. The press has a configuration of 6/6 perfection with a splicing unit, gas heating, online UV varnish, online silicon coating, online folding with 32 options and also has the option of a sheeter. The accuracy of the sheeting works with the accuracy of the printing.”

Prepress

Coordinating the workflow from the prepress to the post press is a challenge that many companies have to reckon with. Zabeel have upgraded its Truflow workflow to accommodate web based file transfer. Now, with that in place and the training complete, Zabeel are ready to take on jobs. Customers will be working on our server. We have provided our customers a user id and a password to log on to our server, to track jobs or to see the proof. We can also give our clients the option of outputting the plates by the click of a button, they can do so from our CTP system.

Zabeel are also looking at the POD (Print on Demand) by using very advanced web based digital technology. We are planning to install the state-of-the-art digital technology in Dubai, Qatar and Abu Dhabi simultaneously.

Zabeel Printing Press is involved in commercial printing as well with main customers like big advertising agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, GSK and Grey worldwide. They also handle other clients like Unilever and IIR exhibitions (the organisers of IPEX) for variable data printing and jobs.

Talking about human resources, Beckett say’s “Another factor that we would like to put in place is the human factor. We have taken a hard look at skills in the market and we have invested in bringing people in from Europe for the key skill positions in our business. This is not to take jobs away from the people who have been serving this industry but to enhance it.”
